Norton Safe Web is an extension that protects you when you browse, search, and purchase online (you’ll notice an indicator next to the website URL that shows if the website is harmful or not). Norton Safe Web is a free extension that you can get from the Chrome web store.
However, if the web extension is causing problems or slowing down your surfing, you may wish to turn it off completely. The Norton Toolbar is a browser extension that is deployed in the Internet browsers of organizations’ that have Norton Antivirus software installed to protect their computers. The NORTON SAFE SEARCH EXTENSION may be simply uninstalled by following the steps below.
In addition to adding a layer of security to your computer, the Norton Toolbar also slows down your surfing performance by safeguarding it from online dangers. It is an add-on or extension for Microsoft Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, and Google Chrome that allows you to access certain features.
All three browsers have the option to turn off the toolbar, which removes it from the UI entirely. It is also possible to disable the toolbar in Google Chrome. HOW TO DISABLE THE NORTON SAFE SEARCH POPUP is provided in the next section.
- Launch Google Chrome. Chrome’s home screen may be accessed by double-clicking the Google symbol (a red, yellow, green, and blue ball) on your desktop or by single-clicking the icon in your Start menu or Dock. On a Mac, you might also be able to find this application in the Applications folder in the Finder.
- To access this menu, click on the three dots symbol, which may be found in the upper right corner of your computer browser.
- Select Settings from the drop-down menu. With Help and Exit, it’s tucked down at the bottom of the menu.
- Select Extensions from the drop-down menu. This may be found in the Advanced section of the vertical menu on the left-hand side of the page.
- To turn off Norton Safe Web, click the switch in the “Norton Safe Web” tile (see image labelled Android7switchoff.png). To re-enable the extension, follow the same procedures as before, but this time make sure that the switch is coloured to show that it is turned on. To uninstall the extension, select “Remove” from the drop-down menu. By doing so, you can turn off the NORTON SAFE SEARCH feature.
Taking use of the edge
- Leave the edge open. To launch Edge’s home screen, double-click the Edge icon (a blue and green “e” on your desktop, or single-click the symbol on your Start menu or Dock to bring up the Edge menu. On a Mac, you might also be able to find this application in the Applications folder in the Finder.
- In your web browser’s upper right corner, you’ll see a three-dot menu icon. Click on this symbol to open the menu.
- Select Extensions from the drop-down menu. It’s located right next to a puzzle piece symbol.
- To turn off Norton Safe Web, click the switch next to “Norton Safe Web” in the image labelled Android7switchoff.png. When the switch is toggled off, it will be to the left and will be greyed out. To re-enable the extension, follow the same procedures as before, but this time make sure that the switch is coloured to show that it is turned on. To uninstall the extension, select “Remove” from the drop-down menu.
Using Mozilla Firefox
- Launch the Firefox web browser. To launch Firefox’s home screen, double-click the Firefox icon (an orange swirl) on your desktop, or single-click the icon on your Start menu or Dock to bring up the Firefox menu. On a Mac, you might also be able to find this application in the Applications folder in the Finder.
- Click on the three-dot icon. This three-line menu symbol may be seen towards the upper right corner of your web browser’s window.
- Select Add ons from the drop-down menu that appears next to an icon of a puzzle piece towards the centre of the menu.
- Select Extension from the vertical menu on the left side of the page, which is located at the bottom of the page. This will provide a list of all of the Firefox extensions that you have installed.
- To turn off Norton Safe Web, click the switch next to the phrase “Norton Safe Web” Image labelled Android7switchoff.png. When the switch is toggled off, it will be to the left and will be greyed out. In order to re-enable the extension, follow the same procedures as before, but this time make sure that the switch is coloured to show that it is turned on. Select “Remove” from the three-dot menu icon if you wish to remove the extension from Firefox. NORTON SAFE SEARCH will be removed from your browser as soon as you do so.
Safari is being used
- Safari’s home page is launched when you first click the Safari icon (a blue compass with a red needle) from your Dock or the Applications folder in the Finder.
- Select the Safari tab from the menu bar that runs across the top of your computer screen. 3.
- Select Preferences from the drop-down menu, which is normally found in the second grouping of menu selections.
- Select the extension option, which will be shown next to a puzzle piece icon. You’ll then see a panel on the left-hand side of the window that contains all of your Safari extensions.
- To uncheck the box next to “Norton Safe Web,” click the checkbox next to it: Android7unchecked.png is the name of the image. In order to re-enable the extension, follow the same procedures as before, but this time make sure that the switch is coloured to show that it is turned on.
After selecting Uninstall under the extension’s name in the panel on the right, click Show in Finder to access the app’s files in a file manager such as Windows Explorer.
To remove a file, right-click it and select Move to Trash, then enter your Mac’s login and password to confirm the deletion. If you see a message stating that the app cannot be erased because it is currently in use, you will need to disable it in Safari once more, as well as any other extensions that are identical.
